Content Overview:
This webinar will explore the sources of trauma for people with intellectual disabilities and the effects of that trauma. Those effects are emotional, behavioral and, in certain cases psychiatric. In addition, the new face of disabilities, those children once born addicted to crack cocaine who are now reaching adulthood will also be discussed in the context of the traumas they have faced and the nature and needs of their disabilities. Finally, the best treatment approaches to address behavioral difficulties associated with the trauma will be discussed.  Much of this content is presented in Trauma-Informed Behavioral Interventions written by Karyn Harvey and available now in AAIDD's bookstore.
